Welcome!
I am honored to have you here.
My name is Khiet Truong, 陈施洁, Trương Lệ Khiết. I was born and raised in a humble city of Vietnam, where my neighbors were friends and relatives. I came from generations of immigrants. My grandparents immigrated to Vietnam from China during the Japanese Invasion. When I was 14, my parents and I immigrated to San Francisco for a chance at higher education. This leap of faith introduced me to a diversity of beautiful cultures, food, and ridiculously steep San Francisco hills. And the same leap of faith carried unspoken grief; I lost my favorite manga, childhood photos, friends, and sibling connection. I constantly lived in the “in-between” worlds, shape-shifting. “Am I Vietnamese enough? Am I Chinese enough? How do I become more American?” I pretended to know American pop music and TV shows when in fact all I watched was TVB! These unconscious efforts put me into hiding. I hid for almost 15 years.
I am learning to rewrite my identity and find my footing. I am a cis-gender1.5 generation Chinese-Vietnamese American. I eat Vietnamese food, watch TVB drama (I love falling asleep to it. It’s home!), and binge Selling Sunset. I am enough.
I hope that my intersectionality will give me the perspectives and empathy to accompany you on perhaps a very challenging period of your life journey at this moment. My hope is for you to feel seen in our connection. You are safe here.
Education and Experiences
I come from a community mental health background. I previously worked with adults and families at risk of domestic violence and homelessness as a care provider. During my clinical practice, I’ve worked in a school-based setting providing culturally sensitive services to teens, families, and school staff. In private practice setting, I’ve supported older adults in navigating life transitions and healing from trauma related to AAPI violence. I feel tremendous gratitude to my clients, supervisors, and colleagues.
